Description
What is a 40mm Shallow Bath Trap used for?
A shallow bath trap is a specialized plumbing fitting used when there is insufficient depth beneath the bath to accommodate a full-sized trap. This is common in modern “low-to-floor” bath designs, apartment buildings with thin floor screeds, or when installing a bath over existing joists that cannot be notched. Despite its compact size, this shallow bath trap provides a secure, watertight connection between the bath outlet and the 40mm waste pipe.
Understanding the 19mm Water Seal
Standard traps typically feature a 76mm “deep seal” to block odors. However, in restricted spaces, a 19mm seal is the industry-standard compromise. This shallow bath trap maintains a constant 19mm column of water to prevent sewer gases from entering the bathroom. Note: Because shallow seals are more susceptible to siphoning, they are best used in systems with adequate venting or where space literally permits no other option.
Durable Design for Hard-to-Reach Areas
At ECO HEAT SHOP, we know that a bath trap is often inaccessible once the bath panel is fitted. That is why our shallow bath trap is manufactured from high-impact white polypropylene, designed to withstand hot soapy water and chemical cleaners without warping. It utilizes high-quality compression nuts and rubber seals to ensure a “fit and forget” leak-free installation.

Installation Advice: When fitting a shallow bath trap, ensure the rubber washers are perfectly seated before tightening. Because the seal is shallow, it is vital to ensure the waste pipe has a correct fall (slope) away from the bath to prevent stagnant water buildup or backflow. Hand-tighten the nuts firmly to avoid cross-threading the low-profile plastic body.
