A waste access plug (also known as a rodding eye or cleaning eye) is a vital access point installed within a drainage run. Its primary purpose is to provide a gateway into the pipework for maintenance. In the event of a stubborn blockage caused by hair, grease, or food waste, the threaded cap can be unscrewed, allowing a plumber’s snake or rodding tool to be inserted directly into the line.
Under UK building regulations, long runs of waste pipework or systems with multiple bends should ideally include an access point.
