While a standard elbow has two female openings, this conversion bend features one male end (the size of the pipe) and one female socket. This allows the fitting to be inserted directly into the socket of another component—such as a Tee-junction or an Access Plug—changing the direction of the run by 90 degrees without requiring an intermediate length of pipe.
