Description
What is Soudal Gap Filler Expanding Foam used for?
Soudal Gap Filler is a moisture-curing, one-component expanding foam ideal for a wide range of construction and renovation tasks. It is the primary tool for filling large, awkward gaps where air leakage occurs. Common applications include sealing around window and door frames, insulating pipe penetrations through brickwork, and filling voids behind skirting boards or within roof spaces to prevent heat escape.
Advanced Thermal and Acoustic Insulation
At ECO HEAT SHOP, we focus on products that enhance home sustainability. This expanding PU foam acts as a high-quality thermal insulator, significantly reducing energy bills by sealing the building envelope. Once cured, the closed-cell structure provides a significant acoustic barrier, dampening sound transmission between rooms or from external street noise.
High-Yield Performance and Durability
The specialized aerosol delivery system ensures a high-yield output, making it a cost-effective choice for large-scale projects. Soudal Expanding Foam is remarkably easy to apply; it remains liquid during extrusion to penetrate deep into crevices before expanding to create a pressure-tight seal. Once fully hardened, the foam is completely stable and can be easily sawn, sanded, plastered, or painted to match your interior decor.
Technical Specifications & Application
-
Container Size: 500ml / 750ml Aerosol.
-
Chemical Base: Polyurethane (PU).
-
Curing Speed: Surface dry in 8–10 minutes; fully load-bearing in approx. 2 hours.
-
Insulation Value: High thermal (R-value) and acoustic rating.
-
Compatibility: Bonds to brick, concrete, stone, plaster, wood, and most metals/plastics.
Pro Tips for Professional Application:
-
Surface Prep: Clean the area of dust and grease. Lightly misting the cavity with water before application will improve the foam’s cell structure and speed up the curing process.
-
The 50% Rule: Since this is a high-expansion foam, only fill the cavity 50% of the way. The foam will expand to fill the remaining volume.
-
Shake the Can: Vigorously shake the canister for 30 seconds to ensure the propellant and resin are perfectly mixed.
-
Post-Application: Once cured, trim excess with a sharp knife. If using externally, ensure the foam is covered or painted to protect it from UV light, which can cause discoloration over time.
